The calypso art form was celebrated in high fashion for another consecutive year by the Faculty of Humanities and Education on January 25, 2008 at the Learning Resource Centre, UWI. Despite the short Carnival season, this did not in any way diminish the intensity of the celebrations. Patrons who attended were treated to dazzling performances by some of the well known Kaiso veterans such as Shadow, Valentino, Luta, Rio, Funny and Heather McIntosh.
This event was preceded by the annual Carnival Fete hosted by the UWI Development and Endowment Fund (UWIDEF) which took place on January 20, 2008 at the Office of the Campus Principal. The theme for this year’s fete was entitled ‘Champagne and Pearls’ and featured performances by Machel Montano HD, Patrice Roberts, Destra with Atlantik and Worldwide Steel Orchestra. The Fund was established to provide scholarships at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, funding of research in selected areas, endowment of chairs and lectureships in key disciplines, as well as funding of capital projects.
