The International Office was transformed into an information centre with flyers, posters and pamphlets as close to 50 international students attended that unit’s open day at the International Office, Institute of Critical Thinking. The setting was informal and relaxed, serving the dual purpose of an orientation exercise and also giving the students an opportunity to interact with the staff of the International Office and the other departments with whom they will have to liaise with during their stay at St. Augustine. Officers of the Registrar’s office, the Faculty of Social Sciences, Student Advisory Services and Student Admissions were invited to mingle. The activity took place on January 24 and students ranged from universities in the USA such as Pacific Lutheran University, Trinity College and University of Wisconsin-Madison. Several foreign language students from Colombia, Venezuela and Martinique also attended the function.
Director of the International Office, Mrs. Indrani Bachan-Persad, along with the staff created the ambience where students chatted freely about matters of concern that needed assistance, carnival, steel pan, life on and off campus as well as their lives back in their home countries. The students had positive reports of their stay at UWI. |
