Following several months of tireless fundraising efforts, the UWI-SEISMIC team members will reap the fruits of their labour when they proudly submit their donation to the BG T&T Energy Challenge later this month. Remarkably surpassing the original pledge amount, the team will submit a cheque for $TT15,520 to be donated to the charities of FEEL and United Way.
The BG T&T Energy Challenge is an annual fund-raising event where teams are required to hike selected mountain trails in Trinidad and complete a series of activities - all within twenty-four hours over a full weekend. The main objectives of the Challenge are to raise money for charity and to foster team-building within participating organizations. For the first time, UWI participated in the Challenge with six of the seven team members being staff of the Seismic Research Unit (SRU). The team placed 19th out of 40 competing teams.
“The Challenge was a great team building experience, not just for those of us who participated in the physical aspect but also for the wider staff of the Unit all of whom were actively involved in our fundraising activities,” said Stacey Edwards, Education Officer at the SRU and Team Leader for the UWI-SEISMIC team. “We are truly proud to be able to make this contribution.”
Special mention should be made of the following organizations for supporting the team’s fundraising efforts: SCRIP-J; Cool Connection Ltd.; Talisman (Trinidad) Petroleum Ltd.; Lake Asphalt of Trinidad & Tobago Ltd.; Forestry Division (Ministry of Agriculture); Yvette’s Creole Food; Barbecue JOE; Kamo Designs Ltd.; and Wanter Enterprises Ltd.
