The official opening ceremony for the Academic Advising/Disabilities Liaison Unit (AADLU) took place on December 6, 2006. The AADLU has been established to provide a high quality academic support facility for students, not only at the St. Augustine campus but across the university.
At the ceremony Mr. Einstein Bodden, one of our physically challenged students, was presented with a fully motorised wheelchair to assist with his movement to and from classes. Mr. Bodden is a first-year Medical Sciences student and represents the University’s commitment to extend equal educational opportunities to all students without hindrance or prejudice.
Mr. Bodden, with the assistance of Mrs. Heather Legall, Hall Manager, Mt. Hope and fellow students, has been able to settle in this semester and fulfill the requirements of his programme without much difficulty. However, it was felt that a motorized wheelchair would greatly enhance his movement capability from Hall to classroom and a decision was made by AADLU, using funds donated by the Prime Minister’s Office, to make such a purchase.
Among those in attendance were: Prof. Gurmohan Kochhar (Deputy Principal), Mr. Jeremy Callaghan (Campus Registrar), staff of the AADLU, Ms. Deidre Charles (Director, Student Advisory Services), Mr. Curtis Mike (Head, Student Activity Centre), Mrs. Legall, other members of Senior Administrative/ATS Staff, Mr. Einstein Bodden (Medical Sciences student) and fellow students. Guests were addressed by Mr. Jackman, the Campus Registrar and the Deputy Principal.
The Academic Advising/Disabilities Liaison Unit can be accessed Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at extensions: 3921; 3923; or 3866.
