UWI’s partnership with ROYTEC

UWItoday Home

RBTT Bank Ltd established ROYTEC in 1980 as a resource development facility for staff training and enhancement in business management and information technology. Over the years, the success of the programme encouraged its availability to be extended beyond the walls of the institution to provide school leavers with the necessary skills to make the transition to the working environment.

An agreement was signed between the UWI and the RBTT Group on August 10, 2006 transferring the external operations of ROYTEC to UWI. Prior to the agreement, ROYTEC had developed into a subsidiary of the RBTT group providing tertiary level training and educational programmes for citizens of T&T as well as the rest of the Caribbean region. The new relationship gives UWI the mandate of facilitating the academic and administrative expansion of ROYTEC. This new role will allow UWI to provide the human and physical resources necessary for the provision of quality tertiary courses, the achievement of sustainable growth, increased enrolment and the accomplishment of other strategic goals and objectives of ROYTEC.

Dr. Anthony Bowrin, PhD in Accounting and Lecturer in the Department of Management at UWI is Executive Director of ROYTEC. In a brief interview with UWItoday, Dr. Bowrin pointed out that while 90 percent of the students are T&T nationals, online programmes such as the BEd will allow some of the courses to be available to other Caribbean nationals via distance education. ROYTEC has developed alliances with other international institutions including Monroe College, the University of New Brunswick, the American Management Association and the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.
