The University of the West Indies and the University of Alberta will co-host a conference entitled “Re-mapping the Americas: Globalization, Regionalization and the FTAA.”
The conference, which will take place from October 19-21, 2005 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Port-of-Spain, will serve as a forum for intellectual debate on the future of regional and hemispheric integration within the Americas and future relationships with other regions. It is expected to attract participation from the public and private sectors, academics, civil society and interested individuals in the entire Americas region and beyond.
More than 50 abstracts have been received on a variety of topics including: The Americas in the Changing World Order; Hemispheric Trade and Economic Relations; Social, Political and Cultural Implications of Emerging Hemispheric Relations; Governance and Multilateralism; Trade, the Environment and Security in Hemispheric Economic Relations; Threats to Regional Security; and Re-mapping Hemispheric Relations.
