Principal, Dr. Bhoe Tewarie signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) with Public Utilities
and Environment Minister Penelope Beckles,
on November 3, at the Principal’s Office
in St. Augustine.
The
MOU is designed to encourage joint research
projects, education programmes, training,
data collection analysis and expert consultancy
services in the fields of forestry, national
park and biodiversity.
Additionally,
it will provide for the exchange and development
of relevant information, training and public
education for the benefit of the national
and regional interests.
Co-operative
programmes in the areas of environmental
education, public policy and resource management
will also be developed.
The
Department of Life Sciences and the School
of Agriculture are likely to be the main
beneficiaries on Campus while in the Ministry
the Forestry Division is likely to benefit
most.
Currently
strong collaborative links exist between
the Life Sciences Department and the School
of Forestry, Oxford University. Further
UWI, the University of Guyana and the University
of Suriname have been strengthening collaboration
on Forestry and Biodiversity issues.
