Animal Lovers Choose Vet School

Veterinary students tend to a sick horse

It is universally accepted among medical professionals that Veterinarians are perceived by the general population as being the most trustworthy! And why not, when your dog is sick, or your horse hurts his leg or your pet kitten falls off the roof, who do you turn to if not a Vet?

Many young animal lovers enrol in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Mount Hope every year. Most of them are Trinidadians, some come from islands in the region and a growing number come from countries across the globe.

The School of Veterinary Medicine is popular with Caribbean students. Given the high demand for vets in industrialized countries, students from these countries are beginning to take a second look at the Vet School at UWI. The School of Veterinary Medicine at St. Augustine is the only one in UWI. St. Augustine also has the only Dental School in UWI.

The 2004 incoming class consists of thirty-four (34) students from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica, St. Vincent and Botswana.

Efforts are underway to attract a broader base of international students.
