Rules
& Regulations
- The 2008 edition of this event will take place on Sunday 2nd November
at 6:00 a.m. at The University of the West Indies Sport & Physical Education
Centre (UWI SPEC)
- Local athletes shall register at any First Citizen’s Bank in Trinidad & Tobago
by presenting valid photo identification and their registration fee.
- International athletes (i.e. residing outside of Trinidad & Tobago) shall
register on-line at www.active.com
- Local registration is TT$25; regional and international registration is
US$25.
- Registration opens on Monday august 25th 2008.
- Registration deadline for Trinidad & Tobago is Friday 24th October 2008
at 5:00 p.m. International online registration deadline is Friday 17th
October 2008 at 5:00 p.m. Registration will automatically close when
we have received 1000 applicants for the race even if this occurs before
the stipulated deadline dates.
- There will be no registration on race day
- Each race category will be open to both male & female competitors and
all race money will be equal for both male & female competitors in the
respective categories.
- At the point of registration athletes shall declare whether they are University
of the West Indies students, University of the West Indies Staff, University
students, First Citizens staff, NAAA registered, physically challenged or
wheelchair athletes. All others will be placed into age group categories.
Failure to provide accurate and complete information will cause your
entry to become null and void.
- All athletes, except wheelchair athletes, will automatically be placed into
the open/international category so that you do not have to declare this
category.
- The University of the West Indies students and staff are any bona fide
students and staff of any University of the West Indies Campus in the
region.
- University students are bona fide students of any tertiary level institution.
- The categories for this year’s race are:
a) Open/International
b) University Student
c) The University of the West Indies Student
d) The University of the West Indies Staff
e) First Citizens Staff
f) 15 – 19 years
g) 20 – 29 years
h) 30 – 39 years
i) 40 – 49 years
j) 50 – 59 years
k) 60 – 69 years
l) 70 – 79 years
m) Over 80 years
n) Physically challenged
o) Wheelchair athlete
- The age group categories exclude the top five (5) finishers in the Open/
International category, the top three (3) finishers in the University of the
West Indies – student and staff - and the University student categories.
- An athlete’s age is the age that he/she is on race day.
- University of the West Indies students shall be considered for placing in
the UWI category, the University category, the Open/International
category, the Physically Challenged category and the Wheelchair
category.
- They, however, can only receive prize money in the UWI category and
one of the other designated categories. Of these remaining designated
categories they would first be considered for the Open/International
category then for the University category followed by the others.
Whichever two prizes they receive should add up to the best possible
financial gain. Note that their placing in all other categories will be
recorded.
- University, Post Secondary and Post High School athletes shall be
considered for placing and prize money in the University category and
the Open/International category. Note that their placing in both categories
will be recorded.
- The top five (5) male and female athletes in the Open/International
category will receive cash prizes. In all other categories, the top three (3)
male and female finishers will receive cash prizes.
- The race will be electronically timed so that only those athletes who wear
their timing mechanism across the finish line will be considered as
completing the course and would, therefore, be eligible for a prize.
- This race will also be the official NAAA half-marathon championship.
Local athletes competing for gold, sliver or bronze medals shall produce
their NAAA registration card/number at the point of registration.
- The UWI SPEC race organisers do not hold themselves responsible for
inaccurate or insufficient supporting information given during the
registration process and the impact of the outputted results based on this
information.
- All athletes shall sign the medical waiver.
- The decisions of the race officials will be final.
