Research Grants and Graduate Awards
The
Campus Committee provides research grants and
graduate awards to
Departments /Faculties and students as follows:
i) research projects
ii) conference participation/research visits
iii) thesis preparation
iv) publications
Application forms are available on
line. Forms should be submitted online by
the prescribed deadline, to the Assistant Registrar
(Graduate Studies & Research).
Research grants are awarded to Departments/Faculties
only for research projects that involve research
students and the funding is normally restricted
to capital items.
In establishing priorities for a research grants
the Campus Committee is guided by the following
considerations:
(i)
The urgency of the programme/projects
(ii) The contribution it is likely to make
to the Caribbean region
(iii) The likely effect on the further development
of graduate studies
(iv) Manpower needs within and outside of
the University.
In
addition the following Graduate Programme Requirements
have been mandated before an application is
accepted to a research programme.
•
Written proposal by the student
• Quality and feasibility of the project
• Clear direction from supervisors
• Joint or Co-supervision
• Identification of a Committee of Advisors
• Equipment and materials required for
research
All
of the above as well as completed reports on
the expenditure on previous grants must be communicated
to the School for Graduate Studies and Research.
Procedure
for Grant Applications
Applications
on the prescribed
forms are to be submitted to the Assistant
Registrar, Graduate Studies & Research,
St. Augustine, for consideration by the Campus
Committee on Research & Publications and
Graduate Awards: Applications for grants are
invited by means of advertisements placed on
the University Notice Boards.
Deadline
Dates for Application - Three weeks before each
meeting
NOTE:
The Campus Committee requires a report on
the expenditure of the grant and on the progress
of the research project.
You
are encouraged to read the Rules Governing Research

Scholarships
UWI
Scholarships - Over 200 UWI scholarships
and grants are available to graduates of UWI
for students pursing full-time research degrees
at the St. Augustine Campus.

Non-UWI
Scholarships - A small number of other graduate
scholarships are available. Applicants are invited
by means of advertisements. Details are usually
provided during the period March to May of every
year.
Studentships
Departmental awards are offered by various departments
for pursuing research in specific areas. Part-time
employment may also be available and enquiries
should be made to the Head of the Department
and/or Dean Faculty in which the student is
pursuing a higher degree.
Graduate students may be employed within the
University for up to eight (8) hours a week
without losing their full-time student status.
EXTERNAL
FUNDING
The
University of the West Indies has always been
supported by many individuals and corporate
bodies in their pursuit of excellence on the
St. Augustine Campus.
