Aims
The programme aims to enhance student learning at the tertiary level through a systematic, evidence-based programme for current and prospective tertiary level (university) level teachers/lecturers.
The programme empowers participants to engage in an approach to practice in which they utilise the tools and techniques learnt to meet the learning needs of tertiary level students with different learning styles, potentials and levels of preparation.
Goals
- To develop reflective tertiary level teaching practitioners
- To explore the learning process and methods of motivating the adult learner
- To examine the principles that undergird teaching and learning with emphasis on adult learning
- To develop lesson planning techniques
- To develop presentation skills with pedagogical/andragogical emphasis
- To explore a range of learning strategies that actively engage the learner
- To provide opportunity for determining the effectiveness of various learning strategies
- To make effective use of feedback and assessment in the modern classroom
- To explore the use of technology to enhance pedagogy
- To further develop knowledge and skill in a relevant discipline.
- To develop a scholarly approach to teaching and learning.
Target Group
The MHEd Tertiary Level Teaching and Learning primarily targets current and prospective faculty of The University of the West Indies, although academic staff from other tertiary institutions locally and regionally will be admitted space permitting, and provided that they meet the entry requirements.
