FIRE EXTINGUISHERS AND FIRE ALARM INSPECTIONS

1. Fire Extinguishers

Every fire extinguisher is to be inspected at least once each month. A record of the monthly inspections must be entered on the prescribed form with signatures from the person conducting the inspection as well as a department representative.

The inspection is to include:
Location
Charge
Serial Number
Visual Defects

Fire extinguisher monthly inspection tags must be signed and dated on completion of each inspection.

Competent persons should conduct a thorough servicing of each extinguisher annually and attach an annual inspection tag showing date of inspection, date of recharge/servicing and signature of individual carrying out the work.

Any fire extinguisher requiring recharging/ servicing must be immediately replaced and lodged in the works department for attention.

Copies of all inspection reports must be lodged with the Campus Safety Officer.


2. Fire Alarms

All Fire Alarms should be serviced every three months by a qualified technician.

Checks should include:
Detection devices
Fire Alarm Panels
Notification Devices

The service technician, as well as a department representative, must sign all reports. Copies of these reports must be sent to the safety officer.

Failure of any fire alarm system must be reported immediately to the safety officer as well as the reports desk.
