This is an open invitation to explore
the history of this mystic isle. It was inhabited by lepers in the early
18th century and the brave nuns who took care of them. Once a Trinidad and
Tobago Coast Guard post, you can find paintings of the Coat of Arms, the
Coast Guard Monograms and the National Birds. A cool walk to the salt pond,
followed by a visit to the broken pier and the ruins of the many buildings
will have you speculating about the island's geography and history. For
those itching for a hike, walk the road to the highest point on the island
and marvel at the view from the lighthouse, even catch a view of Venezuela.
For the lazy ones, relax at Sandy bottom, a beach that lives up to its name
Dive into the rivers of Madamas
and experience a new way of hiking by swimming and jumping off large rocks.
Madamas is a challenge for the daring and lovers of adventure. Be sure you
can swim otherwise grab hold of a life jacket! The swirling river waters
is your trail. At the end of the day, the hiker who hasn't gotten wet wins
a million dollars!
How fit are you really? Well, hike
to Paria and you'll surely find out! This 3 hour hike is along the north
coast of Trinidad and starts at the Blanchisseusse bridge. After hiking
up and down a series of hills there is a "lookout" - a rocky towering
peninsula, with a picturesque view of the ocean and small islands on the
north coast. On reaching Paria bay, there is a grand rock arch at the sea,
(the 8th wonder of the world). Rest on the seashore, rejuvinate in the cool,
calm river or hike further to the beautiful waterfall. And for all those
adventure seekers, climb up the waterfall, and leap into the unknowns of
the deep pool beneath. So if you enjoy a challenge, and nature in all its
splendor, you'll love Paria!
Deep
within the Northern Range of Trinidad exists one of the tallest waterfalls
in the country. The hilly and somewhat steep trail to Rincon waterfall
is a 2 hour hike starting near Las Cuevas. This waterfall is definitely
one of nature's trophies. You can wade in the refreshing pool, relax with
a natural massage with the powerful water that cascades down the rocks.
Salybia
waterfall (also called Rio Seco waterfall) is located to the northeast
of Trinidad. It's a muddy, 2 hour long hike with NO steep parts!!! At
the waterfall, admire it from afar or perch on the large rocks and absorb
nature's beauty. If you're looking for a hike that's not too hard, go
to Salybia and be rewarded with the wonderfull waterfall and pool.
This hour long hike starts in the Matura district. We usually visit a
nearby fire tower and catch a bird's eye view of the surrounding rainforest.
At the river you will find some revitalizing turquoise-green pools to
swim in after this short and easy hike. There is also a slope of gushing
water near-by where one can receive a mesmeric massage from Mother Nature.
Well as for the Mermaids you'll just have to hike there to find out!!!!!!!.
The Guanapo Gorges located in north Trinidad, consist of high rock walls
on either side. After a short walk on land, the challenge begins on entering
the gorge as the hike now involves swimming and surviving the swirling
and sometimes gushing water .It is a stunning 2 ½ hours experience
that will leave you with a lifetime memory!
Is located
in the northern range and is relatively close to Rincon Waterfall. Along
the 2 ½ trail, is black pool as well as Winston Waterfall. Habio
is at its best during the rainy season when the approximately 250 ft waterfall
is most powerful as the water pours itself across the solid black rocks.
This
1 ½ hr hike begins in the Valencia area. It is a hikers dream as
the somewhat bushy trail leads you to an undying river. Located in the river
is a beautiful limestone formation. Pools beyond the imagination invites
