Caribbean Centre for Monetary Studies (CCMS)
The Centre evolved out of the previous Regional
Programme of Monetary Studies (RPMS), a programme
which had well served the Caribbean for the
past 27 years.
The initial RPMS programme was established
in 1968 as a partnership between Caribbean Central
Banks and the Universities of the West Indies
and Guyana, to facilitate high quality research
in monetary, financial and central banking issues
in the region.
The current sponsors of the Centre are the
Central Banks of:
- The Bahamas
- Barbados
- Belize
- Eastern Caribbean States
- Guyana
- Jamaica
- Suriname
- Trinidad and Tobago
and the University of the West Indies (UWI).
The Centre is presently supported by Technical
Assistance from the International Monetary Fund.
Included in the Centre's ongoing research activities
are:
- Monetary Transmission Mechanisms:- their
operations under fixed and floating rate regimes
- The experience of a group of CARICOM Countries
- Mergers and acquisitions in the CARICOM
financial sector
- Financial innovations in the Caribbean
- The regulation of non-banks in the OECS
- Private pension funds in the Caribbean
