Welcome to the Department of Food Production

We are a vibrant and enthusiastic Department tackling research issues in agriculture, environment and earth systems. The Department of Food Production was formed in 1996 as a result of a merger of the Faculties of Agriculture and Natural Science. It is a part of the School of Agriculture within the Faculty of Science and Agriculture. Since the naming of the Department in 1996, its disciplinary base has been expanding. The current list of expertise in the Department includes Agricultural Scientists (specialists in Soils, Crops, Animal and Food Sciences, Postharvest technology and Agronomy), Geographers, a Biosystems Engineer and a Biostatistician. The vision for the Department is that we will continue to become a leader in Tropical Agriculture and Environmental teaching and research, and will broaden our expertise in the area of Natural resources and Earth Systems.
