The Centre for Language Learning is committed to a proficiency oriented communicative approach in the teaching of
all the languages it offers. Students are given the opportunity to develop all language skills: speaking, listening,
reading and writing for the purpose of communication.

English as a Foreign Language
Trinidad and Tobago is the most southerly island of the Caribbean chain. The official language is English. Although Trinidad and Tobago is the island of choice for many South Americans wishing to learn English as a Foreign Language, the programme has attracted participants from the Francophone Caribbean, Europe and even Asia. For the past decade the University of the West Indies has been leading the way in fulfilling that need for English language education. The University of the West Indies offers comprehensive courses in English as a Foreign Language at Elementary, Lower Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced level.
