TTSA PROJECT VACANCIES: HELP WANTED! (E-mail extract)

By: Shomari Smith: President

Date: Thursday 20th October 2005

DEAR MEMBERS OF TTSA

I write this letter to you to give you a brief update on what is happening with the club you joined in orientation week and also in the hope that you have some more understanding of what has been happening behind the scenes.

I must first apologise for the inconsistency of some of our events for the semester thus far. As you may or may not be aware, semester 1 this year has been packed with events that have taken place almost EVERY THURSDAY since the semester started. In addition our cricket challenge has not met the best weather for the past 2 weeks! (Singh) Coupled with demanding work schedules that I know you all have, it can be challenging to successfully have well patronized & planned events. However, this does not mean that things have not been happening and that TTSA is stagnant. To bring you up to speed on certain issues:

Youth Crime Conference 2005: The crime conference for Nov. 12th 2005 is Still on the cards. Though Sponsorship is still a tight issue we have already targeted and contacted schools that we will be using for the conference. We will need help leading up to this conference in the areas of: Making Phone Calls to schools, sponsors, and generally individuals who are involved with this event. We are also going to need some of you members to work within the workshops alongside the facilitators as well as on the day of the conference for general administrative duties. If you also have peer counseling experience we will also be taking names for interested facilitators for the one-on-one workshops with the students. Now many of you may be saying: “Dread How dese ppl going to do this conference on the Day of football???? Dem mad!” However, by our estimates once we do start on time the days proceedings should be finished by 1:00pm-1:30pm for the latest. This also is where things get a bit more exciting

T&T Foot Ball Lime: The Club is putting together a Foot ball supporters lime for the day of the Big match between T&T & Bahrain. We are planning to arrange a Supporters shuttle service from the UWI campus to the Stadium. The shuttles will be equipped with our own TTSA  riddim section (and well we working on ah drinks thing too, but we’ll get back to you all on that). Launching this week, we will have on sale special edition TTSA World Cup supporter TEES (See our web site of photos attached to this e-mail for designs) on sale. We also wanted to give our members first preference by costs so (Drum roll please)….All members can get their BabyTees @ only $30 and T Shirts at $35 (Non Members will pay $40 for Baby Tees and $45 for T Shirts, That’s a whooping $10 Less! See, seeing is believing at top value…Just Kidding) Our communications officer is also working on the plan of having package deals (i.e Ticket, Tee, Transport) for the event. However, the Trinidad & Tobago Football Federation is not issuing any group Ticket “Stacks”. However we will be keeping you informed about this as we get word. It is best though that you sign up early for the shuttle and bring your friends! I mean we are the Club that represents all Trinbago students on this campus. Let’s go, make real noise, bun down de other team! Let we go and cheer Stern John and de boys! (Hopefully he doh buss on penalties if any again) Thus, as a Team to support our Team. Our communications officer Marc Chauharja Singh and TTSA member Chrsl *************. Anyone interested in assisting us with planning this can contact them. Help Needed in areas of: Taking cash to purchase tickets (pending our negotiations with outlets), Shuttles leaders, T shirt assistance, People to Join the Riddim Section (P.s- you must have timing to be in the riddim section eh!)

Outreach 2005: Admittingly this has been a very slow process to get on board. However, the nitty gritty’s have been ironed out. Thus, those who did sign up for this program will be called for a meeting very soon. All details will be given in this meeting and also in a follow up e-mail to this one.

WHERE DO YOU COME IN?????: As I said in our last general meeting, a club is only as good as it’s members. As such in order for TTSA to become the flagship association it can be on campus, we need the input of everybody!!! I mean think of it, as much as we can send the e-mails and plan the meetings, initiative by you will take us a long way in doing the activities we want to do and get them done effectively.

What are some of the things you can do to be actively involved?:

1-E-mail our executive members! Find out what is happening, and throw out your ideas! ( we will provide our numbers so you can call us as well)

2-Come to general meetings. These meetings are not too often but they give everyone a general idea of what is going on and how you can get involved

3-Join a Committee: At the end of the day if your interests lie somewhere, you should join a committee to give your much wanted input. Committees can be very effective, but only if you get involved.

4-Check/contribute to the club web site- The site is constantly updated with info. In addition you can send in your articles, read on the latest news, and even join the web team through the cultural & education offices. (http://www.uwi.tt/ttsa)

5-Notice boards; when all else fails, the notice board always carries the info we need to get out to you guys. Even if you can’t get in front of a PC, you can check out a board on campus especially our own (Located to the side of the rituals building facing the library).

6-Bring a friend-At the end of the day, power comes in numbers. Bring along a friend to a meeting. It will help to know that one of your close friends is involved in the same stuff you are.

If you interested in lending a hand to the above mentioned events, Please e-mail us at uwi_ttsa@yahoo.com. Doh stick! He he he

Once again I want to say that the executive will be trying our best to keep you all informed as to what is taking place, while doing our best to find and organize more interactive events. However, since superman’s genes were not injected into our systems (that was a joke) we do need all avenues of help possible. On that note I want to thank all those who have helped us thus far, and we look forward to having the assistance and support of the rest of you all! See you at the next meeting.

God Bless

Yours in Service
