University Scholarship Examination

The University offers several scholarships based on the results of the University Scholarship Examination which is held each year in April. These scholarships meet the tuition and maintenance costs for the duration of the course of study undertaken by the students. GCE A-level students and First Year UWI students who are nationals of countries in the English-speaking Caribbean are eligible to take this examination.

Applications are invited from individuals who will be applying to enter the University of the West Indies in August 2008, and who wish to sit the University Scholarship Examination.

Scholarship application forms are obtainable from Site Coordinators;the Assistant Registrar, Examinations, Cave Hill; Assistant Registrar, Examinations, Mona; the Assistant Registrar,Admissions, St. Augustine Campus. In the case of Jamaica,forms are also obtainable from Community Colleges and Guidance Counsellors of High Schools.

Scholarship Examination Fees

A non-refundable Examination Fee of J$1,200; BDs $50; TT$150; BAH$25; Eastern Caribbean: US$25 must accompany each application.

The deadline for the receipt of Application Forms is Friday December 07, 2007.

DETAILS

The University administers on its own behalf and on the behalf of the Governments and private donors, a number of Scholarships and Exhibitions on the basis of the performance of candidates in the annual Scholarship Examination.

  1. The Examination will be held on MONDAY FEBRUARY 25 & TUESDAY FEBRUARY 26, 2008.

  2. NO LATE APPLICATION WILL BE ACCEPTED. The examination fee is not refundable.

  3. Applicants for the Scholarship Examination must also apply for entry to the University using the appropriate application forms for the same Faculty as that for which the Scholarship Examination is being written.

  4. Forms must be completed in Duplicate.

Two Papers

The Examination consists of two General Papers:

PAPER 1 (Communication)
Monday February 25th 9:00 am - 12:00 noon

This will comprise a Multiple Choice Section testing Language and Comprehension Skills and a Production Section requiring Summary and Essay Writing.

PAPER 2 (Reasoning)
Tuesday February 26th 9:00 am - 12:00 noon

This paper will focus on Spatial, Structural Perception and Problem Solving.
