The aim of the A.A.D.L.U (Academic Advising) is to develop a network of concerned lecturers (Academic Advisors) with adequate resources to deal with the inevitable difficulties of students. Through the Academic Advising system student-faculty interaction is encouraged and promoted, contributing significantly to the broader development of all concerned on campus.
Academic motivation and performance are likely to be increased if students are not too socially isolated or too miserable to do any studying. An advisor system provides a caring network for all students in order that they might gain maximum benefit from their academic experience.
At the Academic Advising/Disabilities Liaison Unit we can help you with these issues and more. We at the A.A.D.L.U are part of a prevention programme aimed at the early identification of students:
who are underachieving;
for whom a broken relationship, bereavement etc. may be the last psychological straw;
who are more susceptible to emotional breakdown in strange surroundings, although they may be able to cope well enough at home
who are undecided
The Key Components of Effective interaction by faculty are:
Availability/accessibility for students
Authenticity/genuineness in relation to students
Knowledge of students
Ability to communicate
